Early Success of Educate Mozambique!

December 19, 2011

Our project has just begun, and already positive results are showing themselves with promised funding now being placed into Mozambique’s education system. We look forward to lots of pictures soon of new schools being built to replace pictures like this below.

After just a few months, this week there was an announcement in Mozambique’s Parliament about the increase in donor funded grants for the education sector. Suddenly and unexpectedly, this announcement was made by some of the grant making groups to Mozambique about a sudden increase in the amounts being paid on grants already committed to the country. This is an excellent example of how private diplomacy works, and the “Educate Mozambique” team could not be more thrilled to see our early hard work be translated into such a big early success.

We look forward to reading more such stories as the Educate Mozambique project builds and launches more parts in the coming weeks and months. We could not be happier to see promised money coming to Mozambique to help rebuild and strengthen the education system. Educate Mozambique is standing for all the children in need of proper schooling, as well as to help bring accountability and transparency to the international development grant making process.

“For the next year.
This value is equal to that which gave the MoE partners last year.

The cooperation partners of the Ministry of Education pledged yesterday in Maputo, which will give 130 million dollars in this portfolio for next year. This value is used for various education programs, with greater focus on the expansion of the school, especially primary education, and improving the quality of teaching and learning.

The $ 130 million will accrue to the approximately 26 billion meticais the government through the State Budget will allocate to the education sector for the year 2012.

According to Manuel Rego, national director of planning at that ministry, the main focus of the government in the chapter on education is to expand access to primary education.

“Right now, the net enrollment rate of children aged six and seven years of age is around 76%, or 14% of children are still outside the system. In concrete terms, about 200 to 300 000 children who completed six years old this year were outside the system, “explains Manuel Rego, added that for the next year, the government wants 78% of children who will reach age are in the school system, and this time, keep at least 12% off.”

Educate Mozambique

May 25, 2011

Mozambique is rebuilding their education system. This blog is dedicated to the “Educate Mozambique” Project and will be a center point of a broad and global campaign to both educate and crowd-source the world about the current situation faced in Mozambique by millions of school children. This project was conceived by Celio Mondlane of Fundacao Joaquim Chissano and mandated by Dr. Zeferino Martins, Minister of Education in Mozambique.

The primary mission is to bring promised funding into the Mozambique School system from western groups who have made so far unfunded promises to provide for schools. The secondary mission to educate the world about the success stories in Mozambique and how the country is constantly innovating it’s education system to bring it’s workforce into the 21st century.

We will be posting photos, videos, stories in the next coming weeks and months to spread the word about this developing country, and it’s march towards westernization through education.

This is a global project, being built with the love and care of families concerned for their children worldwide. In the coming months we will be providing information about the coalition of governments, universities and foundations that are committed to this project.
